Individuals 16+ with underlying health conditions now eligible for COVID-19 vaccine

Local pharmacies will be administering vaccines to residents who fall in this category

March 22, 2021. Reno/Sparks, NV – Starting today, Washoe County residents who are 16 years and older with an underlying health condition can start receiving COVID-19 vaccines by area pharmacies. The Washoe County Health District will continue to vaccinate eligible Nevadans within the Frontline/Essential Workforce Lane and individuals 65 years and older at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center.

The underlying health conditions that make an individual 16 years and older eligible, per the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, include:

  • Cancer
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
  • Down Syndrome
  • Heart conditions (heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies)
  • Immunocompromised (weakened immune system) from solid organ transplant
  • Obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 30 kg/m2 or higher but < 40 kg/m2)
  • Severe Obesity (BMI > 40 kg/m2)
  • Pregnancy
  • Sickle Cell Disease
  • Smoking
  • Type 2 Diabetes mellitus

Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.

Governor Steve Sisolak announced on March 17, 2021 that vaccination opportunities for that population would be eligible through the Retail Pharmacy Program. Local health authorities, which includes the Washoe County Health District, will continue to vaccinate only eligible Nevadans within the Frontline/Essential Workforce Lane and individuals 65 years and older.

IMPORTANT: Those who receive their vaccine at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center must have an appointment.
