Two additional COVID-19-related deaths reported, 150 new cases

Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting two COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County: A female in her 70s with underlying health conditions and a male in his 60s with no underlying health conditions. There are 79 COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County.

In addition, we’re reporting 150 new COVID-19 cases, a new record. The previous record was 119 set yesterday, July 2. More than 100 cases have been reported in four of the last eight days.

It’s imperative that residents be responsible in their Independence Day celebrations. The epidemiological curve is no longer flat and is trending strongly upward with the addition of the new cases. The 7-day moving average for new cases per day is at 87.

The active cases of COVID-19 in Washoe County is at 1,129. Active cases have more than doubled since June 3, 2020, when they were at 554.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 3,073 (+150 from 7/2)
  • Deaths: 79 (+2)
  • Recoveries: 1,865 (+38)
  • Active cases: 1,129 (+110)
  • Currently hospitalized: 84 (-1)
  • Cases who have discharged from hospital: 231 (+4)

  • Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County as of July 3: 54,007 (+1,460 since 7/1)

Note: These figures are provided by the State of Nevada and can be found on the State Dashboard. COVID-19 tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County.

Hospital bed and ventilator information

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of July 3, 2020:

  • 80 percent of all staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (+3% since 7/2)
  • 53 percent of the all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+8%)
  • 21 percent of all ventilators are in use (+3%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.
