Additional COVID-19-related death reported in Washoe County

Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting an additional COVID-19-related death: A female in her 80s with underlying health conditions. There are now 61 COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County.

In addition, there were eight new cases of COVID-19 and 77 recoveries. The large jump in recoveries is related to a review of recoveries from state-licensed facilities.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 1,585 (+8 from 5/31)
  • Deaths: 61 (+1)
  • Recoveries: 975 (+77)
  • Active cases: 549 (-70)
  • Currently hospitalized: 58 (+0)
  • Cases who have discharged from hospital: 132 (+1)

Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County as of May 31, 2020

  • Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County: 27,783 (+692 since 5/31)

Note: These figures are provided by the State of Nevada and can be found on the State Dashboard. COVID-19 tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County.

Hospital bed and ventilator information

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of June 1, 2020:

  • 67 percent of all staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (-2% since May 30)
  • 38 percent of the all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (-5%)
  • 15 percent of all ventilators are in use (-1%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

The process takes about 15 minutes and is completed safely while you remain in your vehicle. The process is painless, though it can be uncomfortable.
